Amalfi Town. More central and better connected by ferry and bus, with a walkable flat centre around the cathedral. Slightly better value than Positano and handy for exploring in both directions. A practical, atmospheric base. Good for: Central transport hub.
Ravello. High above the coast, calm and refined, prized for its gardens, music festival and cooler air. You trade beach access for tranquillity and views. Best for culture and serenity. Good for: Peace, gardens and music.
Sorrento. Not on the coast proper but the classic gateway, with a train link to Naples and Pompeii and flatter, easier terrain. More affordable and family-friendly. Ideal as a well-connected base for day trips. Good for: Value and easy day trips.
Praiano. A quieter village between Positano and Amalfi, with sunset views and a more local feel. Fewer crowds and better value than its famous neighbours. Great for a relaxed stay with a car or scooter. Good for: Quiet with sunset views.
